You do not have to believe something just because a preacher says it from a pulpit. Listen carefully to what he teaches and compare it with what God has said. A good minister should not be afraid of your questions, and he should not need to manipulate, frighten, or control you to make you listen. Pay attention not only to a minister’s words but also to the kind of life those words produce. Look for honesty, humility, compassion, patience, and a willingness to admit when he is wrong. Truth should lead people toward Christ, not toward worshiping the preacher.
